Thank You for the Shoe-boxes!

Thank you all for giving and stuffing shoe-boxes for Operation Christmas Child this year! All together, we were able to send 276 boxes to children around the world! That is 276 children (and their families) who will not only receive the gifts we packed inside, but also the chance to hear the the Gospel.

Don’t forget to continue to pray for the child who will receive your box. Pray that their hearts will be open to the Gospel. Pray for their families, that they will also be reached with the Good News. Pray for all the volunteers who will work several days, weeks, and months making sure all the boxes reach their destinations.

Thank you!

Operation Christmas Child–Collection Week

This week is collection week for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. The deadline to bring your shoebox is this Sunday, November 20. We will gather the boxes at the front of the sanctuary on Sunday morning to pray over them as they begin their journey to the children who will receive them.

Our church goal this year is 300. Let’s see if we can make that happen!

For more information what to pack, here’s a guide: http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/Pack_A_Shoe_Box/

A few tips and tricks not on the website:

  • It’s great if you can use a plastic shoebox-sized box. The Dollar Tree has some for only $1. Many kids use the boxes throughout the year for various things, including gathering water, and plastic holds up better than cardboard.
  • Ivory soap is the best soap to send because it floats. If your recipient bathes in a river, floating soap is easier to use.
  • OCC strongly encourages us to put a note in our boxes. Kids love to know a little about the person and family that gave them their box. If you put your address in, you may even receive a thank you note!
  • If you can’t decide on an age group, OCC gets the least amount of boxes for boys, ages 10-14.

If you don’t have time to put together a shoebox, you can still help out! The cost for the shoeboxes to get to their location averages out to be about $7 per box. Many of those putting together shoeboxes will include the money, but it is optional. Therefore, some boxes need some help. Click here to donate directly to OCC or any of the projects Samaritan’s Purse has going on.

Finally, OCC has started a cool program where, if you donate your $7 and print your label online, you can “Follow Your Box.” Basically, this means you’ll get an email with the country of your shoebox’s final destination. It’s great for kids; they can learn about a new country while following their box! Follow Your Box here.

Thank you for giving to this ministry! Through your donations, kids will not only learn of the love of Jesus through the gifts you give, but they’ll learn of the ultimate gift and the ultimate love of Jesus–that he died so they might live.
